How a Storage Protection Claim Works

To file a claim, document the damage, submit it at msgppclaims.com, and provide proof of ownership and value. Covered claims are paid at replacement cost with no deductible, with a goal of settlement within 48 to 72 hours, handled in house rather than through an outside carrier.

The claim process, step by step

  • Document the damage before you move anything. Photograph the affected items and the unit. Do not discard damaged property until it is documented.
  • File online at msgppclaims.com as soon as you discover the loss, and note what happened.
  • Submit proof. Provide photos, an inventory of the affected items, and any receipts or replacement estimates.
  • Get paid at replacement cost. Once the claim is verified, reimbursement is issued, with a goal of 48 to 72 hours and no deductible.

What to have ready

  • Clear photos of the damage and the unit
  • An itemized list of the affected belongings
  • Proof of value: receipts, order history, or replacement quotes
  • Your unit and account details

Why claims get denied

Covered claims are paid quickly; these are the common reasons one is not:

  • Damaged items were discarded before being photographed
  • The loss was flood or rising water, which is excluded (it requires NFIP flood insurance)
  • The damage was gradual, such as mold or long-term dampness, rather than a sudden event
  • The claim was filed after move-out, when coverage has ended

What is and is not covered

Covered perils include fire and smoke, theft and burglary, vandalism, precipitation and roof leaks, and vermin damage (up to $500), all at replacement cost. Excluded are flood and rising water, mold and mildew, and earthquake. See what a protection plan covers for the full list.
